Yearbook Photos Today!

Won’t it be wonderful to look back on your time at Biola and recall memories of your unforgettable experiences with PRSSA? We think so!

And what better way to preserve those good times than in the pages of our very own yearbook. We hope all of you will join us this afternoon for the yearbook photo shoot in the production center lobby at 2:00 p.m. If you can, wear business casual clothing but if you are only able to come straight from class or other commitments, whatever you have on will be fine.

Photos shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, so please come!

Beef Product’s PR Counter Offensive

By now, most of the public is aware of the “pink slime” that is being served at fast food restaurants across the nation. When this was revealed to the public, the outcry against the use of this at restaurants, as well as the boycott of the products containing the now famous slime has created the launch of a huge PR counter offense.

PRDaily.com published an article, “Maker of ‘pink slime’ launches a PR counter offensive”, with a detailed coverage of what Beef Products have put into motion.

“Beef Products’ response campaign takes a page out of the new media world, and includes a helpful informational graphic on it’s site called “Get the Facts: What You Need to Know About Lean Beef Trimmings.”

As part of their counter offensive Beef Products has created a response website called beefisbeef.com in an effort to inform the public of the true “Facts” concerning their products. Not just resting on the use of this website the company also recently purchased a full page ad defending their product in The Wall Street Journal. Beef Products has made great use of third party sources that have expressed their approval of their products.

“I am sure the public is not aware of how widespread and potentially devastating the consequences of allowing public misperception to trump sound nutritional science are,” Barry Carpenter, chief executive officer of the National Meat Association, said in a statement on the Beef Products newly created website.

Contiki Campaigns–We need your help!

What are the Contiki Campaigns?

Contiki Vacations is a leading tour operator for college students and others in their 18-35′s with 200 itineraries to more than 40 countries, including tours in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America, Canada, Mexico and, most recently, South America.

For this competition, teams will be challenged to build awareness among college students who are interested in, or planning to, travel abroad for Contiki Vacations by implementing a public relations campaign on campus. Through a unique showcase of creativity, teams will encourage students to talk about traveling abroad and consider Contiki Vacations when making their summer travel plans.

Teams may have no less than three and no more than four members. All team members must be current PRSSA members (having paid dues in either fall 2011 or to pay in spring 2012) enrolled in the same school. Chapters may have more than one team participate, but these teams cannot work together on the campaign.

Each member of the first place team will receive a Contiki tour, choosing either Contiki’s LA to the Bay OR Contiki’s Eastern Escapade. The tour must be taken within 12 months of winning and includes airfare from a major gateway. Terms and conditions apply. Winners will also receive Contiki prize packs (including Contiki tchotchkes and goodies) for their efforts.

The members of the second and third place teams will receive $500 and $300, respectively, to be paid to their PRSSA Chapter. These teams will also receive Contiki prize packs.

Our Team

The Biola PRSSA team participating in a Contiki campaign includes Heidi Smyth, Sydney Bessler and Anita Wei. The campaign, The Best Bits of Europe, will be featuring four different European adventures offered through Contiki Tours. The event will be held on Friday April 20, 2012 from 1-3 pm. The event features a scavenger hunt, invaluable information on Contiki tours, and a raffle with prizes featuring Contiki merchandise. Volunteers will be needed to help out with various tasks on the day of the event. This is a great opportunity to gain experience with event planning and execution. To participate as a volunteer please contact Heidi Smyth at heidi.e.smyth@biola.edu.

Volunteer Opportunity!

Biola PRSSA has some great volunteer opportunities coming up before the end of this year. Get connected and help out — these events are great additions to your resume! The first opportunity comes from our sponsoring PRSA Chapter in Orange County.

OCPRSA PROTOS- A FAIR TO REMEMBER

At the 37th annual PROTOS Awards Ceremony, the best and brightest public relations professionals from all over Orange County come together for an extravagant evening to network and celebrate successful campaigns executed throughout this year.

This year, “A Fair to Remember” will bring together entertainment and professionalism. The volunteer commitment would be to arrive at the OC Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa on Friday, June 1 at 4 p.m. to help with set up and check in prior to the fair. During the event, students sell raffle tickets for a charity auction. This gives us a chance for students network and talk to OC PRSA members.

Dinner is included in the price of the ticket and students will have the opportunity to enjoy the awards festivities.

To volunteer for this event please email Heather Tanji at heather.a.tanji@biola.edu or sign-up on our volunteer page .
